This is our answer to a fun day on the water without all the pressure that a full scale tournament brings. We gather casually, rig up, drink our coffee, throw $5 in the hat and go fishing. Then we fire up the barbecue, have a potluck style picnic in the park and share stories for a few hours. Someone goes home with a modest jackpot and it's a good day.
MBF5 was terrific. Held on October 1st, 2005, this day proved that once again San Diego really is America's finest city. Great weather and no wind from the word go as we launched from Bahia Point and scattered to our favorite fishing holes. I ended up on the back (east) side of Vacation Island and found a pocket of fish at around 8am. I worked through them with Frenzys and blades and picked off quite a few in short order. My 2nd fish was a healthy 2+ pound spottie that went in my tank. The pump was out so I was using an Armstrong pump (big plastic bottle to fill and cycle water).
Lots of good spotties were caught during the incoming tide but around 9:30 when the tide slackened so did the fishing. Bonito made a showing for some anglers, I had two, and a few sand bass were caught as well. When 12 'o clock rolled around the weigh-in on the beach was exciting as Janette Weintraub's fish mowed downt he early contenders. Edith showed up and knocked Janette down and then my fish was a close balance with hers. Unfortunately the Armstrong pump method had failed this spottied and he died sometime during the 4 hours I was hauling him around. People kept shouting "dead fish don't count!" and they really shouldn't, so I conceded the victory and was happy to hand our first lady angler winner the $110 cash jackpot.

Margarita Mike took over the BBQ and we gorged on hot dogs, italian sausages, hamburgers, chicken and some yellowtail. Atkins didn't have anything on us! Except some chips and chocolate walnut cookies, of course.
It was a great day and it reminded us how Plastic Navy
got it's start with events like these. Thanks for sharing it with us!
