Tidelands Park Launch Site

Tidelands Park is always a fun place to fish and launch. Located in the shadow the Coronado Bay Bridge this park offers good beach access for kayakers as well as great picnic and barbecue areas for folks who want to stay on shore. Combining those two things is always a good idea.

Driving Directions

  1. I-5 to Coronado Bridge - cross the bridge
  2. Upon crossing the toll booths, make an immediate right on Glorietta Boulevard
  3. Right on Mullinix Drive
  4. Park on the southern side of the lot near the skate park and unload on the grass.

Parking
Parking at Tidelands can get tight fast, especially in the summer. A good number of seemingly abandoned cars take up a number of prime spots and are a thorn in the side of legitimate park users here. Arriving before 8am usually will get you a good position. If you have wheels this is a good place to use them - there is a concrete walkway and a fairly long sand pull to get to the water - low tides are also pretty dramatic here.

Fishing Description

The Coronado Bay Bridge pilings are an immediate draw for anglers. Recently, however, security boats have declared the minimum distance between you and the pilings must be between 25 yards and 100 yards - it seems to vary boat to boat. Either way - the fishing around the pilings is usually good for bass and halibut.

The moored sailboats around the launch are always good for bass and the flat that extends southeast as well. The channel isn't as clearly defined in the part of the bay and finding distinct channel structure is more challenging.

Heading under the bridge to the flats in front of an Amphib base is usually a good idea. Loads of bass and halibut inhabit the shallow waters that range between 9' and 15' deep. Also, this is a good chance to find the elusive bonefish. Small curly tails in shrimp patterns are popular for targeting the bones.
