April 3rd , 2004 - The Plastic Navy presents
Fastlane Sailing Center Kayak Fishing Classic
on Mission Bay

What an outstanding day! The 2nd Kayak Fishing Classic was even better and bigger than the first! 89 anglers fished through a gorgeous Mission Bay morning and into the afternoon. With the grand prize of the fully rigged 2004 Hobie Outback on the line, the fish didn't stand a chance! Everything imaginable was being thrown at them for 6 hours of bay fishing excellence. In the end Tom Buckalew had the winning system and as he's pictured to the right, drove home with a new Hobie Outback stacked on top the Outback he showed up with.

2nd place was incredibly close behind at only two-hundredths of a pound lighter was the now perennially 2nd placed Pete Weintraub. Last year Pete took home an Avet reel/Shimano rod combo and this year was a Shimano Calcutta 400 and a Seeker rod! We're giving this guy quite an arsenal!

3rd place, and winner of an Okuma rod/reel combo was Todd Groessl. Big Waters Edge's own Greg Knab also made a repeat performance from last year and finished in 4th. Paul Lebowitz continued his hot streak for the year and placed in 5th. The full standings are available here.

The weigh-boats counted 164 fish that totaled out at 204.5 lbs. While only the three species of inshore bass were eligible a large number of other species were caught. Short halibut, needlefish, barracuda, lizard fish and an incredibly large sculpin were incidental catches for our anglers.

The day was wound up with the famous Mexican style BBQ (as great as ever!), a few sodas and the biggest raffle we've ever had.

The Plastic Navy would like to thank the sponsors who made this event possible and most of all - thanks to the anglers who participated. We look forward to another great summer of fishing with you all!
